I have collected data to indicate that all six Queensland Universities have numerous former students or alumni whom have unclaimed money from their time attending that university.

To use Queensland University of Technology (QUT) there are 922 former students of QUT with unclaimed amounts over $1,000 that total over $3 million dollars. The total sample size is north of 13.5K students with amounts down to $10 but I haven’t yet tabulated all those amounts. This money is being held by the Queensland government so it has no financial impact on the university.

What I believe may have happened is that these former students have overpaid their tuition fees or not collected refunded fees from QUT, but that is something the research would reveal how this has occurred. The alumni may be a way of advising former students to check if they have some unclaimed fees and how to claim it back for free.

I am keen to undertake a esearch project to: 1/ See the extent of this for all 6 Qld universities, 2/ see if the alumni of these universities can contct sudents to check for unclaimed fees, 3/ see if strategies can be implemented to stop it from occurring.
